Turkey expresses concern over situation in Yemen

(MENAFN) Türkiye has voiced concern over the current developments in Yemen, describing the situation as "a source of concern," according to official statements released Friday.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry said Ankara welcomed Saudi Arabia’s "prudent stance" amid the recent escalation, as well as the efforts by Saudi Arabia and the UAE to promote security and stability in the country.

Ankara reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that protect Yemen’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity while fostering peace and prosperity across the nation.

Since December 3, forces from the Southern Transitional Council (STC) have seized control of areas in eastern Yemen’s Hadramout region following clashes with the Hadramout Tribes Alliance and government-aligned First Military Region troops.

Four days later, the STC expanded its control to the eastern province of Mahra, previously under government authority.

In response, a joint Saudi-Emirati military delegation was sent to Aden in southern Yemen to coordinate with the STC, aiming to return its forces to positions outside the two provinces.

The STC’s advances have sparked calls locally and regionally for its withdrawal from Hadramout and Mahra, which together make up nearly half of Yemen’s total territory, around 555,000 square kilometers.

The UN has cautioned that continued clashes could have severe consequences for Yemen, which is already grappling with one of the world’s most severe humanitarian and economic crises.
