Yemeni Forces Secure Mukalla After STC Withdrawal

(MENAFN) Yemeni government troops entered Mukalla, the capital of Hadhramout province in the east, on Sunday following the retreat of Southern Transitional Forces (STC) fighters, according to local reports.

A state-run broadcaster stated that the Nation’s Shield Forces advanced into the city through its eastern gate, though no further specifics were provided.

Broadcast footage showed government soldiers marching into Mukalla as residents gathered along the streets to greet them.

Government officials told a news agency anonymously that STC units had vacated several facilities and positions in the city the previous day.

Mukalla, considered the most strategic city in Hadhramout, hosts the Al-Dhabba oil terminal and Al Rayyan International Airport.

The Nation’s Shield Forces confirmed they had arranged a safe passage for STC fighters to withdraw from Al-Mahra toward Aden. They noted that the departing forces were permitted to carry only personal weapons, while government troops established full control over Mukalla Port.

Additional footage aired by the broadcaster showed government forces stationed at Al Rayyan International Airport.

This development followed the government’s takeover of Al-Mahra province and Hadhramout’s desert and valley areas from STC forces just a day earlier.
