Yemen’s Leadership Council Removes STC Chief

(MENAFN) On Wednesday, Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council announced the removal of Aidarous al-Zubaidi, leader of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), from its ranks, citing accusations of high treason.

“The Presidential Leadership Council issued a decision today, Wednesday, to drop the membership of Aidarous al-Zubaidi in the council for committing high treason and to refer him to the Prosecutor General,” read the decree signed by Chairman Rashad al-Alimi.

The order further stated that the nation’s attorney general would begin an inquiry into the charges.

Additionally, the council approved the dismissal of Transport Minister Abdul Salam Humaid and Planning and International Cooperation Minister Waed Badhib, also referring them for investigation.

In its statement, the council directed authorities to pursue and detain those linked to the distribution of weapons and activities endangering civil stability.

“Those responsible would be brought to justice,” the statement declared, stressing that officials would “deal firmly with any violations in a manner that ensures respect for the rule of law and the protection of public rights and freedoms.”

“The unity of military and security decision-making and respect for the chain of command are non-negotiable pillars,” the council emphasized, warning that any grave breach of these responsibilities would lead to accountability under the constitution and law.

These developments followed the recent recapture by Yemeni government troops of the eastern provinces of Hadhramaut and Al-Mahra from STC forces. The two regions, representing nearly half of Yemen’s landmass, had been taken by STC fighters the previous month.
