Displacement Surges Across Yemen Amid Worsening Insecurity—IOM
The latest figures from the UN agency’s Displacement Tracking Matrix recorded 129,438 displaced people, representing 21,573 households affected by the recent escalation.
"Nearly 130,000 people have been forced from their homes in just a few weeks. Many have already moved more than once to find safety," said Othman Belbeisi, IOM regional director for the Middle East and North Africa.
The displacement figure increased by 11,352 people within three days, rising from 118,086 recorded on Sept. 18.
Taiz has received the largest number of newly displaced people, with 73,494 arrivals. Lahj followed with 33,828, while Aden recorded 8,946 and Al Hodeidah 8,244. Additional displacement was reported in Abyan, Hadramawt and Marib.
"These are families who have lost their homes and their income," Belbeisi said, warning that communities hosting displaced families were already facing significant pressures and required additional assistance.
The displacement crisis has also been accompanied by movement across the Red Sea. IOM reported that 3,106 people had traveled from Yemen to Djibouti by Sunday evening.
The agency said it was providing emergency assistance to people arriving in Djibouti and called for greater international support to address the growing humanitarian needs.
