Yemen Slams Houthi Missile Attack on Displaced Persons Camp
Earlier on Sunday, local sources told a Turkish state news agency that a ballistic missile they attributed to the Houthis had detonated near a government military camp in western Aden. The projectile came down in an uninhabited sandy area behind an iron factory in Bir Ahmed, in the Al-Buraiqa district, and caused no casualties or damage, the sources said.
The reports followed a similar accusation on Saturday, when Yemen’s Interior Ministry said the Houthis had fired three ballistic missiles at two coast guard facilities in Aden. The group acknowledged attacking two military sites in the city. Residents heard three powerful explosions across Aden that afternoon, and authorities announced no official casualty or damage figures.
The Information Ministry also accused the Houthis of targeting Aden International Airport and the port in Al-Tawahi on Saturday. Transport Minister Mohsen Ali Haidara said the airport had been attacked for the fourth consecutive time.
The Interior Ministry said the strikes came after repeated missile and drone attacks on civilian and vital infrastructure in Aden, including the airport.
Yemen has been gripped by conflict since the Houthis seized the capital Sanaa and other provinces in 2014. A Saudi-led coalition intervened in 2015 to back the internationally recognized government.
The Houthis hold much of northern and western Yemen, including Sanaa. The internationally recognized government and allied forces retain Aden and large areas of the south and east. Renewed fighting has shifted front lines, particularly along the Red Sea coast, and control of some areas remains contested.
