Yemen Army Claims 218 Houthis “Neutralized” in 753 Operations
The strikes hit forward command centers, fortifications, firing positions, troop concentrations, reinforcements and supply vehicles, the army said. It described them as part of Operation Dawn of Yemen.
According to the army, the attacks disrupted Houthi reinforcements moving toward front lines and backed raids and ground assaults by government forces.
The army did not say how many of the 218 people it described as “neutralized” were killed and how many were wounded. The Houthis did not immediately comment.
The military said its offensive would continue, with the aim of weakening the group’s ability to mass forces and regroup. It insisted that only military sites were targeted and that precautions were being taken to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure.
Background of the conflict
Yemen has been engulfed in conflict since 2014, when the Houthis seized the capital Sanaa and other provinces. A Saudi-led coalition intervened in 2015 to support the internationally recognized government.
The Houthis hold much of northern and western Yemen, Sanaa included. The internationally recognized government and its allies retain Aden and large areas of the south and east. Renewed fighting has shifted front lines, however, especially along the Red Sea coast, and control of some areas remains contested.
